With a lifelong commitment to service, Paul C. Sweeney brings over three decades of volunteerism, legal expertise, and community leadership to Hamilton County. A dedicated resident of Carmel, Indiana for more than 40 years, Paul’s career and personal life are built on perseverance, integrity, and community values.

Meet Paul

Service

Paul has dedicated over 35 years to serving his community through a wide range of volunteer activities:

  • Donated over 10+ gallons of blood through 80+ donations since 1999.

  • Longtime Youth Minister, Confirmation Facilitator/Presenter, Council Member, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Community, and volunteer at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church.

  • Additional volunteer roles at St. Maria Goretti include the National Eucharistic Revival Team, Italian Festival All-Star, and Spring Fling Volunteer.

  • 2019 Recipient of St. Maria Goretti's James Krupowicz Award for outstanding catechist service.

  • Leadership roles with United Way of Central Indiana, Hamilton County Youth initiatives, and the Carmel Symphony Orchestra Board.

  • Active in civic advisory boards and initiatives addressing the legal deserts in Indiana, supporting youth resources in Hamilton County, domestic violence shelters, and community welfare.

  • Member of the Indiana Supreme Court’s Legal Futures, Pathways to Admission and Education Work Group (working to alleviate the lawyer shortage in Indiana).

  • Backstage crew volunteer and flying specialist for ten (10) of The Point Theater’s (formerly CYT Indy) productions.

Perserverance

Paul brings over 28 years of civil litigation and trial experience, representing clients in Hamilton County, Indiana, and across the U.S.

  • Education: B.A. in Economics & Political Science, Indiana University (1994); J.D., magna cum laude, IU McKinney School of Law (1997).

  • Admitted to practice: State of Indiana, U.S. Supreme Court, multiple U.S. Court of Appeals and federal district courts.

  • Over 60 jury, bench, and arbitration trials.

  • Recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® (2022–2025) for Commercial Litigation, Litigation – Labor and Employment, and Labor Law – Management.

  • AV-Preeminent Attorney rating from Martindale-Hubbell for highest ethical and legal standards (2014–present).

  • Indiana Super Lawyer, Rising Star, 2009-2012.

  • Senior Counsel at Ice Miller LLP, one of Indiana’s top law firms.

  • Member of the Indiana Supreme Court’s Legal Futures, Pathways to Admission and Education Work Group (working to alleviate the lawyer shortage in Indiana).

Community

As a long time Carmel resident, Paul is deeply rooted in the local community:

  • Volunteer for youth sports since 2003.

  • Speaker and writer on legal, ethical, and faith-based topics, including featured articles for Ice Miller Informed Employer.

  • Board member and volunteer for The Point Theater (formerly CYT-Indy), fostering youth performing arts.

  • Organizer of legal retreats, servant leadership talks, and faith-based youth group events.

  • Active participant in legislative efforts, including helping amend Indiana's Family Military Leave Law to extend coverage for families related via adoption, foster and other familiar relationships.

  • Committed to local initiatives like the Carmel Clay Schools Expedition Program and support for adoption and pregnancy services.
